This past weekend I went and shot photos and videos at 2 events that were in different cities and very close together time wise.
I decided at the last minute to have a hat contest since it was Kentucky Derby Day. The winner was Jacie Dunham (in the white shirt above). Who made her own hat and wore it as she was leading a peewee around the barrels.
The first was Saturday night as CCOBRA had their bimonthly barrel race at Mariana Heritage arena. Got there around 5pm for the 7:20 start and I was glad I got there early. Even though I knew it was a night race with 2 hours before I decided to set up the tent anyway.
After the sun went down the top of the tent became a grasshopper magnet. While the people under the tent weren’t bothered at all. The tent will be going up for all night races at that arena.
The tent is a pain to set up and take down but having a general place for riders to get a water and charge their phone is needed. In the near future I will be using the tent to sell merchandise. I already have a following of riders coming to me for the pain spray so that’s always there along with the video phone holder stabilizer.
We had about 110 riders in the open and a combination of about 25 in the youth and peewee. We got finished very late.
You can see all the barrel racing photos from CCOBRA at Marana Heritage Arena here.
The second event was up in Queen Creek. QCBRA put on a race with the upcoming Las Vegas race in mind. Good practice for the riders that are going up to Las Vegas Memorial Day weekend.
Peyton Krahling on MPS Blue Boy.
That race started at 10 am so I decided to drive up to Queen Creek and get a hotel so I would be rested a bit instead of driving an hour home from Mariana and then 2 hours to Queen Creek. It was a little warm but the early start time helped that.
You can see the QCBRA photos here. I am still editing them as we speak but most of the peewee and youth divisions are up.
